Guided Biofilm Therapy: The Future of Dental Teeth Cleanings

GBT, with EMS Airflow. Developed in Switzerland, available in downtown Edmonton.

At Signature Dental, we want only what is best for our patients. Thus, we have introduced Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) into our practice with the EMS Airflow, a technology developed in Switzerland.

The minimally invasive approach of GBT reduces the need for manual and sonic instrumentation. It is efficient, time saving, and much more comfortable than traditional tooth cleanings.

Removing biofilm is key to reducing cavities, prevent gum disease, and the incidence of dental implant infections. The EMS Airflow removes biofilm gently, without hurting you or damaging your teeth or dental implants. Research shows that removing dental biofilm helps protect against or reduce the effects of cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and diabetes.

Airflow removes biofilm, early calculus (tartar), and stain leaving your teeth smooth and a shade whiter!

The Process

  • We make dental biofilm visible by applying a purple dye that is a visual aid to help us remove it efficiently and completely.

  • The EMS Airflow is then used to remove biofilm. The unit dispenses a warm mist with a very fine powder called erythritol. This powder does not damage your teeth and it has a strong antimicrobial effect. It is safe to use on teeth and dental restorations like fillings, metal or porcelain crowns and bridges, implants and braces (both metal and clear aligners).

  • We then check to ensure complete biofilm removal. This helps diagnose caries more accurately and to spot any remaining calculus deposits around tooth roots. Surfaces are then completely cleaned of any remaining deposits.

  • Lastly, we schedule your recall frequency based on risk assessment.

No more pain or fear. GBT is a TRUE WELLNESS EXPERIENCE for EVERYONE!
